The Fight Against the Coronavirus

As the novel coronavirus spreads, law enforcement officers around the world continue to do their part in keeping the world safe. The RTC thanks you for your continued service to our global community during these uncertain times. We also understand that as law enforcement officers, you come into contact with people on the front lines every day. To reduce your likelihood of contracting COVID-19, we encourage you to take the following precautions.

  • Practice proper hand hygiene by promptly washing or sanitizing hands after coughing, sneezing, or physically interacting with others.
  • When washing your hands, wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
  • Avoid close physical contact with others, including shaking hands and hugging.
  • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, and mouth).
  • Promptly disinfect your gear including your duty belt after physical contact with any individual.
  • Keep disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer in an easily accessible place while on-duty.
  • Seek medical care early if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing.
  • Do what you can to maintain good health, by getting enough rest, eating healthy, and staying hydrated.
  • Stay home when you feel sick, and respectfully request that your colleagues and family members do the same.
  • Stay informed, but don’t let information overload create an additional burden on you.

COVID-19-infected droplets may be able to live on nearly any surface, for days. Think about the items you frequently touch during a shift, and sanitize them frequently – including your phone, laptop, clipboard, patrol car equipment, door handles, steering wheel, etc.

Most importantly, we ask that you take care of yourself so that you can keep taking care of others. We each have a part to play in triumphing over the adversity this crisis has created, and the RTC is committed to doing what we can so our community can stay healthy.
