We started the New Year on a very positive note. Last week, we had a surprise visit from 2 alumni from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) who walked in saying “hello Esther and Collins, we have a success story to share!’’. These alumni attended the Small Arms Trafficking course in 2019 and provided interesting feedback on how the RTC techniques acquired has empowered them to instruct and train other police divisions on weapon handling. Occasional visits like these remind us of the mutually beneficial relationship that exists between the RTC and its alumni.

The favorite part about our job is having relevant discussions with our participants from all over West Africa. Every course brings together a dynamic set of law enforcement professionals with so much experience to share. Week after week, participants leave the RTC with a sense of pride knowing they are part of a network of alumni- connected by our shared vision of combatting transnational organized crime.

As part of our efforts to enhance collaboration with alumni in Ghana, the RTC visited alumni at their office locations over the holidays.

At the Accra Court Complex, we met with Justice Dasta who had attended the Anti-Corruption for Judges and Prosecutors and the Advanced Digital Evidence courses. She was recently sworn in as a Court of Appeal judge. Interestingly, her court was in session when we arrived, however, she made time to meet us in her chambers.

At the visit to the Ghana Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Director Lampley met with the Head of the Cyber Unit and the Director General – COP Addo Danquah. The team was given a tour of the yet-to-be-launched state-of the art Cyber Laboratory. This is particularly great news for our cyber cohort, who have been advocating for a forensics lab to put all their knowledge to good use.

At the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), we met with alumni from Ghana Immigration, Customs, Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) and the Ghana Forestry Commission - Wildlife Division. We were introduced to the new NACOB supervisor at the Airport who happens to be an RTC alumnus.

All this is to say that, we at the RTC are committed to promoting a culture of collaboration and information sharing. Even though we are unable to visit you all in your respective countries, we hope that our alumni engagement efforts will always keep us connected. We always look forward to hearing from you.
