U.S.-Ghana Child Protection Compact (CPC) Partnership Implementation Meeting

The RTC was privileged to host senior officials from the United States Government and the Government of Ghana to engage in a high level consultation on the U.S.-Ghana Child Protection Compact (CPC) Partnership Implementation.
The meeting focused on discussing the progress in achieving the objectives of the U.S.-Ghana CPC Partnership which is the first jointly-developed plan to address forced child labor and child sex trafficking in Ghana. In attendance were Ambassador Robert P. Jackson and Kari Johnstone- Acting Director for the Office to Combat and Monitor Trafficking in Persons.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador emphasized U.S support for anti-trafficking efforts in Ghana through the CPC Partnership and the need to closely monitor the progress in combatting trafficking in persons.
Representatives from the Government of Ghana included, the Honorable Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and Chair of the Human Trafficking Management Board; the Honorable Ignatius Bafuor Awuah, Minister for Employment and Labor Relations, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Joseph Kpemka, and Samuel Amankwa, a representative from the Ministry of the Interior.
Over fifty invitees who attended the event represented supporting partners and organizations including: Free the Slaves– Ghana, International Organization for Migration (IOM), British High Commission, European Union, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service and UNICEF.
The Ghanaian government highlighted several recent successes in the fight against child trafficking and indicated that the ministries are committed to investing Ghana’s resources to fulfilling the objectives of the CPC Partnership to ensure Ghanaian children are not subjected to forced labor or sexual exploitation.
